Before you leave the office today, please do sign these two key aid transparency related campaigns. The first is on the effectiveness of U.S. aid from the U.S. Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network and a second to stop the double counting of climate aid in Copenhagen from the ONE campaign.
A last request, we are also looking for a Research and Monitoring manager to join the team. The deadline is this Friday, the 11th December, so if you know anyone who you might be interested please do pass it on. This person would be responsible for building and managing the work stream which includes producing a flagship annual report, case studies, briefing papers and analytical reports as well as providing ongoing support to our advocacy activities.
Finally, I wanted to thank you all for your support in this first year of our campaign, and we look forward to working with you in 2010.
From all of us at Publish What Fund: Happy Holidays!

2009, the year the aid transparency agenda took shape
It has been an exciting year for aid transparency and for us here at Publish What You Fund. The aid transparency agenda has moved from rhetoric to reality.
The U.S. Congress proposed two bills which include specific sections on aid transparency. The House of Representatives introduced the Foreign Assitance Reform Act, H.R. 2139 and the Senate introduced the Foreign Assistance Revilitazation Act of 2009, S.1524.
The International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) became a substantive political force and serious technical progress has been made. There are now 18 donor signatories, and we continue to work on and with donors are not currently fully engaged.
Two international conferences on aid transparency were held – the first annual conference of IATI, with155 organisations, donor and partner countries attending and the United Nations Development Cooperation Forum produced important recommendations on aid transparency.
Two major reports on aid emphasized the role of aid transparency of donors. The EU Aidwatch report for the 27 member states, and the Data report for the G8 countries.
We started 2009 with the foundation laid by the aid transparency undertakings made in Accra at the end of 2008. This was one of the few areas of deepened commitments by donors, and as instrumental for delivering on the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
