Challenges and room for improvement

• Although MAEDI made significant progress in the 2014 Index climbing from the ‘very poor’ to the ‘fair’ category, efforts have subsequently stagnated or declined, resulting in a drop in performance category to ‘poor’ in the 2016 Index.
• Important information items such as budget documents, activity budgets, impact appraisals and conditions are not published at all to the IATI Registry while others such as country strategies, audits and contracts are not consistently published
• The frequency of MAEDI’s publication to the IATI Registry has dropped from quarterly to less than quarterly.

RECOMMENDATIONS

• MAEDI should re-prioritise its IATI publication and focus on publishing more comprehensively in the Standard, before extending coverage to other priority countries and increase the frequency of its publication.
• It should publish a complete organisation file to the IATI Registry including forward-looking budgets for at least three years ahead.
• It should adapt its information systems and processes to support automated and timely publication of high quality data in the IATI Standard and work closely with the AFD, MINEFI and the IATI Secretariat to improve publication.
