Unicef is the world’s leading organisation for children in over 190 countries. Unicef now serves as a full member on the IATI Governing Board.

ANALYSIS

Achievements and progress

Unicef is one of the best performers on the 2016 Aid Transparency Index and has made the most significant progress since 2013, improving its overall score by 45.2% points.
Unicef publishes a complete organisation file in the IATI Standard and has added eight activity-level indicators since the 2014 Index.
Unicef now publishes its data to the IATI Registry on a monthly basis.

Challenges and room for improvement

There is some room for improvement for a number of activity-level indicators such as budget documents, budget by quarter and results data.
Memoranda of Understanding and objectives failed sampling.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Unicef should work to improve some of the low scoring indicators at the activity level, in particular financial information and results data.
It should sustain its transparency efforts and share best practice with other UN agencies.
It should design a strategy for internal and external use of its data, in particular at country level.
