USAID publishes Foreign Assistance Dashboard

By Katie Welford | Jun 26, 2012 | News

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has for the first time published foreign assistance obligation and expenditure data on its Foreign Assistance Dashboard.

The Dashboard serves as a tool for users to understand the impact of U.S. foreign assistance funding by country, sector, initiative, and agency. The site has become the U.S. Government’s main tool for improving foreign aid transparency.

Welcoming the move, Publish What You Fund Director David Hall-Matthews said:

‘It is great to see USAID making their foreign assistance spending more accessible. We welcome the new information on the Foreign Assistance Dashboard and the message this sends about the U.S. commitment on aid transparency. We hope other agencies such as State Department and Treasury now follow suit.

‘The next crucial step is for this data to be published in a timely manner. In order for aid to truly be transparent, information on aid must be comprehensive, timely and comparable, and published to the standard of the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).’

The Foreign Assistance Dashboard also contains budget planning data for the Department of State and USAID, as well as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)’s foreign assistance budget planning, obligation, and expenditure data.
