The Government of Japan this week published aid data to the International Aid Transparency Initiative for the first time.

This exciting development sees data from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) appearing in the IATI Registry.

David Hall-Matthews, Director of Publish What You Fund, said:

‘This most recent initiative on transparency is part of JICA’s continued efforts to further advance our commitments on the accountability and transparency principles. The initiative, undertaken under the strong leadership of JICA President Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, and supported by MOFA, demonstrates our belief in the need to make the information on our activities and organization more user-friendly, for which publishing in a machine-readable format is key.”

The files contain 2012 aid and development activities, including grants, loans and technical cooperation across all agencies, as well as data on ODA loans for 2013.
