We welcome the leadership shown by the EIB on opening up its development activities by committing to implement IATI in its new disclosure policy. We are disappointed, however, that the policy does not go further by including exceptions on internal documents and investigations. We hope that the EIB will review this decision and work closely with its funders and beneficiaries on identifying their information needs.

We will continue to monitor the EIB’s progress on aid transparency during this important year for development. We hope that other financial institutions will follow its lead by committing to implement IATI. With all development actors publishing timely data in an open, comparable format, it will be possible to compile a fuller picture of financing flows for sustainable development.
