Women’s Economic Empowerment – New Survey

By Nadia Meeran | Aug 11, 2021 | News

Publish What You Fund have launched a survey on Women’s Economic Empowerment, Financial Inclusion and Empowerment Collectives in Kenya, Nigeria and Bangladesh. We are calling on NGOs, INGOs, WROs and/or feminist movements to please fill out the survey and help to build the evidence to help secure greater and fairer access to funding opportunities.

The survey is available in English, Swahili and Bangla: https://surveymonkey.com/r/XH29ZZS

Our project Women’s Economic Empowerment: building evidence for better investments, aims to provide the evidence to inform strategic decisions around how to increase and better target investments that economically empower women. We are focusing on six countries to conduct this research: Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Ethiopia, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

A major barrier to achieving progress on Women’s economic empowerment, is limited understanding of who funds it, why and with what results. Without this information, it remains difficult for policymakers, donors and gender stakeholders to know how to best allocate funds and address funding gaps. It also makes it difficult to secure greater and fairer access to funding opportunities for feminist movements and women’s rights organisations.

With the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic implications, WEE has not only stagnated since 2020 but is in reverse. It is therefore critical, that we work together to get funding for the organisations and women who need it most. We are working with a range of stakeholders to share our findings and advocate for more and better funding towards WEE, WFI and WECs.
