Friends of Publish What You Fund welcome Tessie San Martin as new Chair

By Sally Paxton | Apr 7, 2025 | News

On March 31, 2025, Friends of Publish What You Fund elected a new Chair, Tessie San Martin, the CEO of FHI 360. George Ingram, who has chaired the Board for over a decade, decided to step down as Chair but will remain on the Board.

Publish What You Fund thanks George Ingram for his years of service and valuable contributions to Friends, to Publish What You Fund, and to the development community. Currently a Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution, George has a rich history of service that spans Capitol Hill, USAID, and the non-profit sector, specialising in international economic and development policy.

Tessie San Martin, elected unanimously as Chair by the Friends Board, brings a wealth of experience from her career in the development sector. Currently the CEO of FHI 360, Tessie previously held roles as the CEO and President of Plan International USA, a group vice president of Abt Associates, and director of Operations at the World Bank’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency. She has served on the Board of Friends for many years.

Gary Forster, CEO of Publish What You Fund, said:

“I want to personally thank George for all his work, advice, and commitment to advancing transparency and accountability, especially in the US. His knowledge, sense of humour, and work ethic have brought enormous value to both Publish What You Fund and Friends of Publish What You Fund. I also look forward to working with Tessie in her new role as Chair and thank her in advance for what I know will be invaluable leadership.”

Friends of Publish What You Fund is a US-based nonprofit organisation, established in May 2015 with the objective of promoting aid transparency. Its particular focus is US transparency and accountability. Friends works in partnership with many stakeholders with similar objectives, including its UK-based partner, Publish What You Fund.
