Participants announced for the 2026 Aid Transparency Index
Publish What You Fund, the global campaign for aid and development transparency, has announced the organisations that have chosen to participate in the 2026 Aid Transparency Index. The Index will provide an independent assessment and accreditation of transparency performance, ensuring the sustainability of this vital global accountability tool while opening participation to a broader range of organisations than ever before.
The Aid Transparency Index has been a cornerstone of global transparency efforts since 2012, providing rigorous, peer-reviewed analysis of how aid and development finance is disclosed. Independent research shows that taking part in the Aid Transparency Index helps organisations strengthen their data and become more transparent over time. For the 2026 edition, 14 organisations have registered to participate, including bilateral donors, philanthropic foundations, UN agencies and multilateral development banks.
The publicly listed participating organisations include:
- African Development Bank
- Australia-Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
- The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
- French Development Agency, AFD (Agence française de développement)
- Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance
- The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
- Inter-American Development Bank
- New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
- Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation
- Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
- UNICEF
- World Bank, International Development Association (IDA)
Two participating organisations – both large philanthropies – have not been named in the list due to ongoing procurement processes, but will feature alongside the other organisations in the Index assessment.
Gary Forster, CEO of Publish What You Fund, said:
“We are thrilled to see so many agencies and institutions commit to transparency through this new model. Development cooperation has never been more important – and with aid budgets under strain, transparency is essential to ensure effective coordination, robust learning, and meaningful evaluation of impact. This relaunch secures the future of the Index while making its benefits available to a wider range of organisations. We look forward to working with participants over the coming months to help them strengthen their disclosure and ensure their efforts are visible in the global aid dataset.”
Over the next 12 months, Publish What You Fund will:
- Assess the data and disclosures of all participating organisations
- Provide tailored training to technical and leadership teams on the use and importance of aid data
- Convene participants to share lessons and best practices
- Publish the 2026 Aid Transparency Index in autumn 2026
Forster added:
“For organisations that have chosen not to participate, and not to subject their data to independent scrutiny, we want to be clear that, as the global campaign for aid and development transparency, we will continue to review their public information and track their progress. Where we see transparency standards slipping or insufficient progress being made, we will consider appropriate steps to uphold our shared goal of ensuring that as much aid as possible is transparent and accountable.”
