G8: US Committee on Foreign Affairs calls for aid transparency action

The Committee on Foreign Affairs has expressed concerns over ‘stalled efforts’ in making American aid transparent in a letter to USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah.

A bipartisan effort, the letter was issued ahead of the G8 Summit to press USAID about their implementation of the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI). The Committee requested a timeline for delivery, as per America’s Busan commitment to fully implement IATI by 2015.

Finally, the Committee urged  USAID to join the World Bank’s Open Aid Partnership, which compiles information about geographical aid data to help better coordinate program delivery and monitor the impact of aid.

The G8 will close today, but the Committee has insisted aid transparency should remain a priority for US.
