German Cabinet Approves Aid Agencies’ Merger

The German cabinet has approved a detailed plan to combine the country’s three foreign aid agencies into a single unit.

German Technical Cooperation, or GTZ, the German Development Service and the Intwent Training Agency will be merged into one agency, called the German Company for International Cooperation, or DGIZ, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports after the decision on the 7th July.
Dirk Niebel, German Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, drafted the plan in order to minimize waste of German aid funds. This reform of German aid agencies marks a good step towards increased coordination and effective aid.
