NGO development projects to be mapped

A brilliant initiative has recently been launched by InterAction and FortiusOne which will create a standard output format allowing NGO development projects to be easily mapped and compared – exactly the sort of approach and tools we need for aid transparency more widely.

Development Gateway attended the initiative’s first steering committee, and has commented in their blog that, ‘the implications for aid transparency are enormous […] at the moment there is no systematic way for stakeholders to look at where these organisations are operating and what is being funded. If a picture is worth 1,000 words, imagine a map that could overlay the work of 1,000 organisations against indicators like child malnutrition or climate vulnerability to show areas where help is still needed. Knowledge is a powerful tool.’
