Schwegmann: Advocacy and aid transparency for more effective aid
In her blog at the Atlantic Community, Claudia Schwegmann, founder of OpenAid, argues for increased aid transparency and civil society advocacy to improve currently ineffective incentives which hamper the aid system.
Schwegmann points to areas which hold great potential for achieving greater aid effectiveness: Provision of data; dissemination of relevant information; use of information, and response from donors.
Warning that aid transparency is necessary but not sufficient in maximising aid effectiveness, she says ‘Transparent information can be THE most important lever for aid effectiveness. But transparency by itself does not automatically lead to more bargaining power of citizens..’
