Shah: USAID needs major reform
Rajiv Shah, director of the U.S. government’s Agency for International Development, USAID, once more promised major reform of the aid agency in a speech at the National Press Club last Friday, 18th June.
Having already announced that ‘extreme transparency’ can be expected in USAID spending, Shah reiterated his commitment to effective aid by pledging to reform procurement practices and improve budget accountability within the agency. With a view to increasing evaluation of the agency’s foreign assistance and giving “the American taxpayer hard evidence of the impact their money is making”, increased transparency of aid information will be of great value and necessity.
