Aid transparency and accountability a priority in Haiti
Bill Clinton and Jean-Max Bellerive give an account of Haiti’s reconstruction to date in the Foreign Policy magazine.
Both co-chairs of the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission, they are making it a priority to see ‘that the work takes place with the full transparency and accountability that Haiti’s leaders are committed to maintaining and that donors have every right to expect.’
In addition, they are ensuring ‘reconstruction projects are aligned with the priorities of Haiti’s development plan’; something which requires transparency of aid information and clear communication.
It is important that Haiti continues to hold these priorities during its reconstruction and beyond in order that resources can be used to the best effect, and so that leaders can make sustainable long-term plans.
