The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today announced they will become a signatory of the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) as part of the Bank’s efforts to improve transparency.

This will make the IDB the 22^nd donor signatory of IATI, which has seen agencies rapidly publishing to its international standard in advance of the High Level forum on Aid Effectiveness in less than a week’s time.

Becoming a signatory of IATI means that the IDB is joining 21 other aid donors in committing to publish its information to IATI’s common standard. As further donors publish their information to the international standard, a more complete picture of global aid activities can be built. Ultimately, this will allow people to plan their activities in coordination with other donors, and will allow partner countries governments a more comprehensive view of what’s happening in their county.

“Improving transparency helps countries manage resources more effectively, and that makes better use of every dollar when fighting poverty and reducing inequality,” said IDB Executive Vice-President Julie T. Katzman.

“We recognize that credible and timely information is essential to deliver the knowledge and lessons from our development programs. Joining IATI is the next step in enhancing our access to information for the multiple stakeholders of our work in the region and beyond.”

The Bank’s membership will be formalized in a signing ceremony on November 29 at the Fourth High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, Korea.
