Open Gov Guide

By Katie Welford | Nov 1, 2013 | News

As part of the international summit being held in London this week, the Open Government Partnership has launched an Open Government Guide.

The guide, which is primarily aimed at activists and civil servants working in the field of government transparency, highlights practical, measurable, specific and actionable steps that governments are taking across a range of cross-cutting and focused areas.

The topics currently covered are listed below, and more will be added in future:

Cross cutting topics Focused topics
  • Assets disclosure and conflicts of interest
  • Budgets
  • Citizen engagement
  • Open government data
  • Public contracting
  • Public services
  • Records management
  • Right to information
  • Whistleblower protection
  • Aid
  • Construction
  • Elections
  • Environment
  • Extractive industry
  • Fisheries
  • Land
  • Parliaments
  • Police and public security
  • Tax and Illicit flows

Although it is mainly written from the perspective of national government implementation, many of the actions described also apply to local government.

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) was established in 2011 as an international voluntary effort to foster more transparent, effective and accountable governments.
