Humanitarian Transparency Webinar

By Henry Lewis and Gary Forster | Sep 11, 2019 | Blog

From the Ground Up: Taking a needs based approach to humanitarian transparency

At the 2016 World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, the Grand Bargain was launched, with the aim of tackling the humanitarian financing gap and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian action. One of the commitments made during the meeting was to increase transparency in humanitarian response and spending. While significant gains have been made since then, the full potential of more transparent humanitarian information is yet to be realised.

Earlier this year, Publish What You Fund and Ground Truth Solutions, with funding from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embarked on a research programme to understand what challenges humanitarian actors face, and whether and how improved transparency and greater information sharing can help.

In September 2019, we delivered a webinar on our research project to show what we have learnt so far and what we are doing next. We had some fascinating insights and reflections that we wanted to share with you. The webinar was designed for and open to anyone, but particularly for those of you with an interest in humanitarian assistance.

If you missed the webinar, or if you just want to go back and review some parts for your interest, we have now uploaded a recording for you to watch!

The webinar should provide you with a good basic knowledge of the Grand Bargain, how our research project came about and where the project is up to, some of our initial findings from our background research and online survey, and what our next steps are for the project moving forward.
