DFI Transparency Tool

Guiding DFI disclosure for better impact, accountability and markets

We have developed the DFI Transparency Tool to improve the systematic and timely disclosure of relevant information by development finance institutions (DFIs). The tool provides detailed, granular guidance to DFIs on the information they should disclose to improve their transparency. We also used it as a framework to measure DFI transparency and published the first DFI Transparency Index in January 2023.

Click on the wheels to see more details about the indicators included in the tool. You can also download the tool as a pdf document.

The DFI Transparency Tool is the culmination of two years of in depth and collaborative research assessing the disclosure practices of the world’s leading multilateral and bilateral DFIs, including both sovereign and non-sovereign portfolios. Further information on our research findings and the rationale for the tool can be found in our Advancing DFI Transparency report. Our Disclosure Example Book illustrates what is possible in terms of DFI disclosure, and is designed to help overcome perceived barriers and guide improvement.
