We want progress on gender equality, but we need greater transparency on the financing to get there

A lack of clear and consistent information on the funding and effectiveness of gender equality work makes it difficult to track progress on gender equality commitments in Guatemala, Kenya and Nepal. the Gender Financing Project has just published research mapping national and international funding flows in the three countries – and we found it remains difficult to paint a comprehensive picture of funding for gender equality, and to know if donors’ gender financing is making a difference. Donor financing for gender equality: spending with confusing receipts

There is an increased need for clear and consistent data on the extent to which bilateral and multilateral donors are prioritizing gender equality in their financing, and to what end. Without accurate data on the funding of and results from gender equality projects, we cannot hold donor institutions accountable for their gender equality commitments, nor ensure that funds spent are meeting populations’ needs. Preliminary findings from the Gender Financing Project shed light on how donors are spending on global gender equality—and what we still don’t know based on available data.
