In the last year governments including that of the UK and US have made growing amounts of data available to the public. Although the intention behind increased transparency is hugely positive, there is still a vital step to be addressed if this information can be made appropriately accessible.
What is available at present is ‘machine-readable’ data, which will ‘fall flat unless there are independent developers who know what to do with them’. It is imperative that technology experts and governments must begin an ongoing conversation to establish how we can best provide tools with which to convert these vast data into something more useful.
