Aid effectiveness for a ‘Better Ghana’

By Katie Welford | May 27, 2010 | News

The OECD reports that the Ghanaian government plans a ‘Better Ghana’ achieved through greater aid effectiveness; ‘There is a strong need to ensure that aid is managed effectively in line with Paris Declaration commitments.’

Aid transparency must be a focus as Ghana has experienced an ‘inability to plan effectively because of the unpredictability of aid’ and lack of donor alignment; problems which can be addressed with transparent budgets, longer-term plans, and increased communication and cooperation between donor and recipient.
Ghana’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Dr. Kwabena Duffor, has outlined how he believes DAC members can help achieve a ‘Better Ghana’. (See ‘Featured Article’)
