EuropeAid publishes to IATI

By Katie Welford | Oct 28, 2011 | News

EuropeAid (the Commission Directorate General which deals with development and cooperation) has published its aid information to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) Registry, demonstrating commitment to aid transparency ahead of the High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in 6 weeks’ time.

This is a welcome development, but also comes at a critical moment as the European Council are drafting a common EU position for Busan ahead of the Foreign Affairs Council on 16 November. Despite donors including Portugal and Italy blocking a progressive stance on aid transparency, it is vital that EU member states show collective leadership by agreeing that donors must adopt and implement IATI.

Already the open aid data community has begun to develop visualisations from the release, which you can see here and here.
