Global Initiative on Fiscal Transparency to launch at OGP Annual Meeting

By Katie Welford | Mar 27, 2012 | News

The Global Initiative on Fiscal Transparency (GIFT) website is now live, and will be officially launched at the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Annual Meeting in Brasilia net month. GIFT is an international, multi-stakeholder network aiming to “advance and institutionalize global norms and significant, continuous improvements on fiscal transparency, engagement, and accountability in countries around the world.”

GIFT believes that access to information, public participation, and accountability enhance the integrity and quality of fiscal policies in countries at all levels of development. Such is the case with foreign aid spending: Comparable information needs to be published cooperatively by donor and recipient countries in order to maximize the potential impact of aid. We look forward to engaging with the initiative to ensure that aid transparency is integrated into government agendas on fiscal transparency.

The OGP Annual Meeting is taking place in Brasilia on 17 and 18 April. Publish What You Fund will be leading an Aid and Fiscal Transparency  side event on the 18th April, details of which will be on our website shortly.
