Watch now: How transparent is gender equality funding in Guatemala and where do we go from here?

Wednesday 14th April

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a disproportionate negative impact on women and girls, exacerbating social and economic inequalities and derailing hard-won gains. Scaling and coordinating gender equality funding is critical for addressing the growing gap and for achieving broader global development goals.

To ensure funding is best targeted to both meet identified gender priorities and to make societies more equal we need a clear picture of gender financing – which projects are being funded, by whom, with what aims and with what results.

The Gender Financing Project has mapped national and international funding for gender equality in Guatemala. Our research examines how such information could be made more transparent and useful and offers some recommendations for improved co-ordination and allocation of gender equality funding in Guatemala.

Panelists:

  • Claudia Maselli, Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman
  • Adriana Quiñonez, Country Representative, UN Women
  • Saira Ortega, Director of the Guate Diverse and Inclusive Program funded by the Swedish Emba,sy (Hivos Guatemla)
  • Andrea Villagrán, Member of Congress, Republic of Guatemala

Moderator: Tessie San Martin, President and CEO, Plan International USA

Panelistas:

  • Claudia Maselli, La Procuraduría de los Derechos Humanos
    Saira Ortega, Hivos
    Adriana Quiñones, ONU Mujeres
  • Andrea Villagrán, Diputada del Congreso de Guatemala

Moderadora: Tessie San Martin, presidenta y directora ejecutiva de Plan Internacional USA

El Proyecto de Financiamiento para la Equidad de Género está a cargo de Friends of Publish What You Fund y Publish What You Fund, y cuenta con el apoyo de Save the Children US y Plan International USA.
